Follow these simple tips to get the most out of your online courses.

Create a Study Space

Some people find it difficult to fully engage with their online studies because they do not associate their home surroundings with focused work. Create a designated study area somewhere in your home and you will feel much more able to lock into your course work. Whether you have a home office or a desk in your living room, choose an area where you will work on your online studies and make it comfortable, tidy, and pleasant. Use it only for your studies–don’t take breaks in this space. Having a specific space dedicated just to studying will make it much easier to focus and to separate your home life from your school life.

Find Your Most Productive Time of Day

Everyone has a time of the day when they are naturally at their most productive. Pay attention to when you feel the most focused. Do you do your best work in the morning, afternoon, or evening? One of the great things about doing your education online is that you can tailor your schedule to suit you. Determine the best time of day for you to do coursework and schedule your time accordingly.

Prioritize Participation

With online education, you’ll get as much out of it as you put into it. Just because a course is taught online does not mean that there is no opportunity to participate. Get involved in class discussion boards, ask questions to your instructor, and use all of the resources available to you. This will deepen your understanding of the course materials and help you engage more fully.

Set a Schedule & Stick to it

Time management is key when it comes to online education. Because online learning gives you a lot more freedom and flexibility with your schedule, it can be easy to overlook the importance of scheduling out your coursework. Once you determine the best days/times for you to study, make up a schedule that works for you and stick with it.

Take Breaks

Make sure that you schedule breaks into your study plan. Taking breaks to relax, get some fresh air, or eat a healthy snack helps your brain recharge and makes you a more effective student. Try scheduling a 10-minute break for every hour of coursework to help prevent feeling burnt out.
