Diploma in Post-graduate Nursing

This session allows Internationally Educated Nurse (IEN) to become acquainted with faculty, staff regarding policies, procedures and standards and prepares them for their learning experience.

This course will overview Anatomy and Physiology with medical terminology, Communication and Nursing Professional Practice and pharmacology. This course will introduce Internationally Educated Nurses (IEN) to the Canadian health care system and the specific health and cultural needs constantly arising in diverse patients and resident populations following standard policies and procedures. It gives IEN a better understanding of the communication process and information about nursing practice's legal and ethical boundaries to develop professional communication skills and provide guidelines for nursing ethical professional boundaries to enhance student performance in the workplace.

This course focuses on applying the nursing process to an adult patient's care experiencing various medical-surgical conditions. It facilitates students' learning about the disease process, body system and nursing care associated with it. The course content includes a review of all system disease conditions, nursing assessment and nursing care plan.

This course focuses on the correct knowledge within the context of the Canadian health care system in meeting the physiological, psychosocial, cultural and developmental needs of the maternal or child client. The course content includes health promotion and pregnancy, care of mother and new born, and care of high-risk mother and family with special needs.

This course will enable students to apply theory, concepts, and skills related to mental health nursing while functioning as a member of the nursing profession, provider of patient-centred care, patient safety advocate, and member of the healthcare team in various inpatient and community settings. This course content includes concepts of mental health, care of the patient with psychiatric disorders, addictions and abuse.

This course addresses the promotion of health, healing and client safety. Participants explore and develop the essential knowledge, competencies, and critical components of foundational nursing skills from an evidence-informed perspective. Participants will have the opportunity to practice and demonstrate completion of ethical, competent, and safe nursing skills.

This course will provide the knowledge nurses need to promote healthy ageing and meet the growing number of older Canadians' complex health care needs. The course content includes the foundations of healthy ageing changes associated with normal ageing, including issues older adults may experience as they adapt to these changes and focus on older adults' common health problems. Social, psychological, economic, and legal issues that affect healthy ageing are presented.

This course aims to enable IEN's to apply knowledge, skills and understanding of critical concepts required for entry into professional nursing. The course content includes a review of basic concepts of nursing across the lifespan.

This course will provide IEN's with valuable experience in a variety of settings. IEN's will participate in treatment and intervention activities and become aware of environmental issues that affect chronic (and acute) to consolidate their skill and gain valuable discipline-specific experience. IEN's will be required to participating in documentation, reflect and evaluate their personal, professional development in the clinical settings.

This course provides the IEN's with the opportunity to Incorporate and integrate the theoretical knowledge and skills acquired during the program into their clinical practice. It provides IEN with the opportunity to increase independence and autonomy and establish the ability to apply critical thinking, Clinical reasoning and implement an evidence-informed approach with unique client conditions and complexity.
